The film intrigued global audiences at the premiere on 17 May 2023 at the Cannes Film Festival and won the prize as Best Feature of the 2023 Cannes Critics’ Week. It was selected as the Malaysian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards. It competed in the Official Selection at the 56th Sitges Intl. Fantastic Film Festival and was a closing film at the 2023 Jakarta Film Week.
Written and directed by Amanda Nell Eu, the Ghost Grrrl Pictures production involved producers from Malaysia, Taiwan, France, Germany, Netherlands, Indonesia.
